Daily Bulletin on Meningitis « A » Vaccination Campaign 28 November to 04 December 2013 - Day 3
MenAfriVac mass campaign vaccination that is conducted in the Gambia since the 28 of November will give the opportunity to about 1.2 million people from 1-29 years old to get immunized against meningitis « A » the more epidemic type of meningitis in Africa.
Since the first day of the campaign, the National Committee have started daily meetings to make the follow-up of the roll out. Every day in WHO Office in Banjul the technical staff of the MoH and their WHO conterparts discuss about the differents topics of the campaign, (Surveillance, wastage, social mobilization, laboratory and data managment).
Every day, teams and supervisors are in the field to ensure that everything is going right.
After four days, the data show that six (06) suspected Adverse Event Following Immunizatin (AEFI), have been recorded. No serious case notified. The two cases notified in Sukuta (14 and 19 years old) have been detained for views and released later.
The main issue that still needs to be adressed is the transportation that causes some delays in the deployment of the vaccination teams in the field.
