The Gambia launches new partnerhip platform for health governance

The much awaited Country Health Compact has finally taken off ground.  The Honourable Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr Isatou Touray, this morning, launched the Gambia’s Health Compact. The Health Compact paves the way for renewed and strategic partnership between the Government of the Republic of The Gambia and health development partners. This partnership is eventually expected to accelerate progress towards Universal Health Coverage, i.e. access to high quality and affordable health care that will lead to improved and equitable health outcomes for all Gambians. The Health Compact is guided by the principles outlined within the framework of the International Health Partnership Plus (IHP+), the 2005 Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness and the 2008 Accra Agenda for Action.

WORLD DIABETESE DAY 2017 COMMEMORATED IN THE GAMBIA

The Gambia joined the International Community in observing World Diabetes Day, commemorated on 14 November every year. The activity was organized by the Gambia Diabetes Association (GDA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MoH&SW) and the WHO Country Office (WHO), hosted by the Young Men Christian Association (YMCA) Headquarters in Kanifing.

WHO and partners engage stakeholders for implementation of the tobacco control act 2...

The national multi-sectoral platform for tobacco control is not resting on its laurels since enactment and official launch of Gambia’s first ever comprehensive Tobacco Control Act 2016. It has just launched an aggressive nationwide stakeholder sensitization and engagement to smoothen the way to implementation. Funds for this activity have been mobilized through a local NGO, which is an active member of the multi-sectoral platform.
