Abuja, May 17th 2018 – A four day training for staff of state Ministries of health of Bauchi, Cross Rivers, Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) and the National Primary Health care Development Agency has ended in Abuja with calls on the federal government and states to forecast their health workforce requirements to enable governments make informed health plans and policies for the provision of efficient and effective quality health services.

Abuja, 10 May 2018 -With six weeks of declining numbers and only a handful of confirmed cases reported in recent weeks, the critical phase of Nigeria’s largest-ever Lassa fever outbreak is under control, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). However, Nigeria is endemic for Lassa fever and people could be infected throughout the year, making continued efforts to control any new flare ups crucial. 

Bauchi,  09 May 2018  - The World Health Organization (WHO) and partners are supporting the Bauchi State Government to immunize 600,000 people against cholera.

Abuja, May 4th 2018 – As the World prepares to celebrate the 2018 World Hygiene Day with the theme, “Save Lives, Clean Your Hands”, Mrs Toyin Saraki, the President and  founder of Wellbeing Foundation Africa (WBFA), today paid a courtesy visit to the Country Representative of the World Health Organization (WR) Dr Wondimagegnehu Alemu. 

The meeting was aimed at enhancing collaboration between WBFA and WHO on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) campaign to improve basic hygiene practices in healthcare facilities and schools across Nigeria. 

Abuja, 27 April 2018 – A 3 year old boy in North Eastern Nigeria lay semi-conscious on a raffia mat. His parents grow concerned as his body is very stiff, he’s sweating profusely and his body temperature is extremely hot. In absolute panic, his father rushes him to a healthcare center and begs the doctor on duty to examine the child.

Abuja, 24 April 2018 – The Federal Government of Nigeria in collaboration with international donors and development partners, including the World Health Organization (WHO), today validated the 2nd National Strategic Health Development Plan. The plan which is designed to provide an over-arching strategic direction for health in Nigeria towards Universal Health Care (UHC) comes at a time the Government of Nigeria has set out its UHC agenda through Primary Health Care revitalization.

Nigeria, 20 April 2018 – The African Vaccination Week (AVW) is an annual event celebrated during the last week of April. It is an initiative of governments in the African region that was initiated in 2010. It is celebrated in synchronization with other WHO Regions and the World Immunization Week (WIW).The aim of AVW is to strengthen immunization programmes in the African region by raising awareness on the need and right of every person (particularly every child and woman) to be protected from vaccine-preventable diseases. 

Lagos, 18th April, 2018 - A Regional Workshop with participants from 38 African countries and supported by World Health Organization (WHO) on the Global Surveillance and Monitoring System (GSMS) for substandard and falsified (SF) medical products opens in Lagos on 17 April 2018.

Sub-Saharan Africa contributes to over one third of all reports of suspected SF products received by WHO. Antimalarial and antibiotics are the most commonly reported products from Sub-Saharan Africa.

Professor Osinbajo made the request when he received in audience, the Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Regional Directors and other Global Policy Group members of WHO at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on 11 April, 2018.
