Owerri, 20 August, 2020 - The Governor of Imo State, His Excellency Hope Uzodinma on 19 August 2020, launched the innovative Mobile Health Insurance Programme in Owerri. 

Abuja, 18 August, 2020 - The World Health Organization (WHO), in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH), has established a national database to collate and monitor the successes and death rate of maternal and perinatal cases in the Nigerian health sector.

Known as the Nigeria Maternal and Perinatal Database for Quality, Equity, and Dignity (MPD-4-QED), the programme  is a standardized electronic platform for the collection, collation, and audits of routine maternal and perinatal data in tertiary level facilities nationwide.

Kaduna, 6 August 2020 - World Health Organization (WHO) Nigeria has supported the screening of 2306 persons for COVID-19 and 2506 persons for Tuberculosis (TB), using Chest X-Ray, and GeneXpert machine through mobile testing in Kaduna State communities. Already, 265 COVID-19 cases and 105 presumptive with eight TB cases were diagnosed in six weeks (June and July 2020).

Abuja, 28 July, 2020 - To commemorate the 2020 World Hepatitis Day, the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire says, in Nigeria, "We could estimate that about 20 million people are chronically infected with hepatitis B and C. Therefore, we recognize the importance of vaccination as a critical intervention in our determination to eliminate HBV infection by 2030.

Abuja, 27 July 2020 - The Executive Director (ED) of National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr Faisal Shuaib says, “World Health Organization (WHO) has been the government’s strongest partner in the fight against Polio and other vaccine-preventable diseases in Nigeria.”

He made the assertion when he received the new WHO Nigeria Country Representative (WR), Dr Walter Kazadi Mulombo in his office in Abuja as part of the WR’s familiarization tour to Government parastatals and agencies under the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH).

Maiduguri, 14 July, 2020 - Borno state government in collaboration with Federal ministry of Health and WHO, deployed about 8,000 community health care workers (including drug administrators, recorders, supervisors, monitors and community leaders) to deliver Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) to about two million children aged 3-59 months in Borno state. The main objective of the campaign is to protect children from malaria during this year’s peak transmission season.
