Sierra Leone Commemorates World AIDS Day 2011
Sierra Leone commemorated World AIDS Day 2011 on 1 December on a theme “Getting to zero new infection by 2015” with the campaign slogan, „Believe it! Do it!. The Day is commemorated every year to heighten awareness, promote the existing available services, advocate for positive attitudes towards people living with the disease as well as to reflect and renew commitments on the fight against HIV and AIDS.
The commemoration spanned for 4 days with activities including HIV information fair, vigil, candlelight procession, mass rally and condom distribution. The event was attended by thousands of people from every sector of the society including H.E. The First Lady of the Republic, Ministers, Parliamentarians, high level public officials, the UN family and other development partners, representatives of diplomatic missions, civil society, private sector and the public.
