In response to a request from the Muhimbili University College of Health Sciences (MUHAS), Dr. Rufaro Chatora, WR Tanzania organized a briefing of the Masters of Public Health students on WHO, International Agencies and Global Health.

The session took place in the WCO conference hall and it was attended by 11 MPH students and lecturers. Others in attendance were some of the WCO Programme Officers.

The Government of Tanzania, on 8th June 2011, acknowledged with appreciation the WHO support to health development being given to the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.

The Ag. Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Gilbert Mliga made the statement on behalf of the Government of Tanzania during the handing over ceremony of three Land Cruisers worth US$154,223 to the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare for immunization activities.

WR Tanzania Dr. Rufaro Chatora accompanied by three WCO Programme Officers made a visit to the Ministry of Livestock Development and Fisheries. In this visit the WR was able to meet with the newly appointed Minister of Livestock Development and Fisheries Hon. Dr. Mathayo David Mathayo, for a briefing on the WHO support to the Tanzania Rabies Elimination Project implemented jointly by his Ministry, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Administration.

Dar Es Salaam, 29 February 2008 -- The Eastern and Southern African Annual Expanded Programs on Immunization (EPI) Managers Meeting which took place in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania from 27th – 29th February 2008 has ended with the adoption of 16 resolutions aimed at child survival.

In his closing remarks on 29th February, Dr. Mohammed Belhocine, WHO Representative to Tanzania called on the EPI managers to implement the 16 recommendations adopted by the three day meeting. The recommendations focused on integrated child survival in general and EPI in particular.

The Rwanda/Tanzania GLP inter-country workshop was held from the 21st to 25th November 2011. It involved 9 technical officers from Rwanda and 21 from Tanzania respectively. Also, arising from the late cancellations only four facilitators were able to participate in the workshop.

The facilitators had two days preparatory days prior to the workshop commencement in order to make final preparatory planning and logistic fine tuning work for the workshop. The report reflects highlights of the workshop proceedings.

Hon. Minister of Health and Social Welfare Dr. Hadji Mponda (MP) on 4th December 2011 launched the National TB Prevalence as part of activities at the exhibitions to mark 50 years of the independence of Tanzania Mainland.

Tanzania has committed itself to the Millennium Development Goals that aim at a 50% reduction in TB prevalence and mortality rates relative to the year 1990 levels by 2015. Tanzania achieved the TB indicator target of 85% treatment success rate in 2006 and treatment success rate of 88% is indicated in 2010 WHO Global TB report.

Tanzania and Rwanda WCOs are participating in an Inter-country Global Learning Programme in Arusha, Tanzania with 9 participants from WCO Rwanda and 19 from WCO Tanzania.

Training runs from 21st – 25th November 2011 and it is being facilitated by Dr. Rufaro Chatora, WR Tanzania; Dr. Habib Somanje from AFRO, Dr Andre Rusanganwa from WCO Rwanda and Dr. Martins Ovberedjo from WCO Tanzania.
