Zimbabwe commemorates World TB Day
Harare, 24 March 2010 -- Today Zimbabwe joined the rest of the world in commemorating World TB Day under the theme On the move against tuberculosis – Innovate to accelerate action. The event, which took place at the Glamis Stadium in Harare brought together the different players in TB, including ex-TB sufferers, health workers, community health promoters, and members of the uniformed forces. Also in attendance were the honourable Minister of Health and Child Welfare, Dr Henry Madzorera, the Permanent Secretay in the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare, Brigadier General, Dr Gerald Gwinji, the WHO Representative, Dr Custodia Mandlhate, and the Harare City Health Director, Dr Mungofa, among others.
The event started with a march from the Town House, through the city centre to the Show Grounds, led by the Honourable Minister and the WHO Representative. Traffic and business was brought to a standstill in the city centre as many witnessed the colourful procession.
