Dr Matshidiso Moeti, from Botswana, is the first woman to be elected as WHO Regional Director for Africa. Over the past five years, Dr Moeti has led the transformation of WHO in Africa to ensure the Organization is accountable, effective and driven by results.

Good morning and good afternoon to the journalists joining us and to everyone watching online – bonjour, bom dia – for this press conference on the continuing COVID-19 resurgence and treatment capacities in African countries.
Greetings to our journalist colleagues, bonjour à tous et bienvenue.  Thanks for joining us for this press conference and also welcome to everyone who is watching online. So, today we are going to look at access to vaccines and the circulation of variants on the African continent. 
I’d first of all like to acknowledge and greet you and greet Dr Cravioto who joined us from Latin America and greet all the Members of the Regional Immunization Technical Advisory Group (RITAG) and the partners and colleagues who have joined us on this line.

Transformation Agenda

The Transformation Agenda of the World Health Organization Secretariat in the African Region is a vision and a strategy for change aimed at facilitating the emergence of the WHO that the staff and stakeholders want.

It is a result of consultations with staff members within and outside the WHO African Region, and stakeholders from outside the Organization. The Transformation Agenda covers four focus areas:

  1. pro-results values
  2. smart technical focus
  3. responsive strategic operations
  4. effective communications and partnerships
