Immunization advocates were part of the first ever Ministerial Conference on Immunization in Africa (MCIA) that brought many people together including leaders, health and Finance Ministers, technical experts, policymakers, donors and medias.  This article will presents you the voice of few advocates, who have been participated on MCIA, and showed their dedication, commitment and energy to continue promoting immunization in Africa.

Addis Ababa, 15 February 2017 – The World Health Organization Country Office in Ethiopia in collaboration with the Food, Medicine and Health Care Administration and Control Authority of Ethiopia (FMHACA), organized a two-day policy dialogue on Intersectoral Action for strengthening Tobacco Control.

ADDIS ABABA | 7 APRIL – Ethiopia commemorated the 2016 World Health Day under the theme, “Beat diabetes - Integration and decentralization of diabetic care with primary health services” in a series of activities since 05 April 2016  which culminated with mass walk and promotional gathering at Teklehaimanot HC  in Addis Ababa.

Addis Ababa, 3 April, 2017 - Ethiopia joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Tuberculosis Day 2017, under the theme “Unite to End TB”. The official launch of the commemorative activities took place at Addis Ababa University, on 24 March, 2017.

04 APRIL 2016, HAWASSA | The Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples (SNNPR) regional Health Bureau in Ethiopia continues to receive technical as well as logistics support from the World Health Organization (WHO).  Recently, in its continued support to strengthen the region’s effort in the prevention and control of Acute Watery Diarrhea (AWD), the WHO provided 1 DDK Basic Module + Support module + ORS module + Infusions Module worth USD 10,000.00   

Belaynesh Yimer is a 14-year-old girl and seventh grader, in Tenta kebele (district) of Enebssie Sarmidir Woreda of Amhara state. She wants to be a doctor and heal patients. One day, she could not stop scratching herself and her body was aching. She could not sleep, study, write and eat properly. She could not hold a pen due to the sores on her hand. Consequently, she missed several days of school.  

Moyale town and surrounding kebeles (a kebele is the smallest unit of local government and can best be regarded as a municipality, a neighbourhood, a localized and delimited group of people or ward) have been affected with Acute Watery Diarrhea (AWD) since 7 November, 2015.  The Town is the capital of both Moyale-Oromia and Moyale-Somali Woredas (or districts) and they share a border with Kenya. The town has very high population traffic from different regions, without any restriction to movement.

Addis Ababa, 19 April 2017 – Ethiopia joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Health Day, on 7 April 2017, at Yeka Kotebe General Hospital, a newly inaugurated hospital with mental health services. This year’s commemoration was under the theme “Depression; Let’s Talk” with a special focus on three groups of the population, namely adolescents and youth, women and elderly.

14 APRIL 2016, ADAMA | The Ethiopian Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) with the technical and financial support of the WHO Country Office in Ethiopia conducts a three days intensive training of trainers on Early Warning, Alert and Response System (EWARS).The training targets regional health bureau staffs that are responsible for cascading the training to the technicians in their respective regions.  This EWARS training is of paramount importance to effectively and efficiently expedite the health response to the current El Niño induced humanitarian crisis. 

Jigjiga, April 27, 2017 - The World Health Organization delegation conducted a four day field visit to Dollo and Korahey zones from 22-26 April, 2017, as part of WHO’s interventions in the Acute Watery Diarrhea (AWD) outbreak emergency response, in the Ethiopia Somali Region. The aims of the visit are, among others, to effectuate a rapid assessment of the situation and to identify the needs and gaps so as to strengthen the response to the outbreak.
