Cabo Delgado Successfully Completes the Cholera Vaccination Campaign

PEMBA November 03, 2020 – About 312,600 people from hot-spot cholera districts prone for outbreaks in Cabo Delgado Province, including internally displaced persons (IDPs), were vaccinated against the disease in the first and second rounds, both conducted in September and October respectively. A high coverage rate of 85%, according to the results released by the Provincial Health Directorate of Cabo Delgado (DPS).

World Health Organization: 28 cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Mozambique

Maputo – 14, April 2020 – In Mozambique, the number of positive cases for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has increased to 28, with seven (7) new COVID-19 cases confirmed in the last 24 hours, announced the National Director for Public Health, Dr. Rosa Marlene, during the daily press conference on the status of the coronavirus pandemic.

World Health Organization: Three cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Mozambique

Maputo - 24, March 2020 – Mozambique has registered two (2) more cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the last 24 hours, totaling three (3) cases confirmed in the country, announced the Ministry of Health of Mozambique in Maputo.

The second confirmed case is a close contact to the first patient tested positive in Mozambique, announced on 22 March 2020.

Maputo - 22, March 2020 - Professor Dr. Armindo Tiago, Minister of Health of Mozambique, has reported the country’s first case of COVID-19. The patient is a 75 years old male that recently returned from United Kingdom (UK) on 20 March 2020. The patient is believed to have contracted the virus in United Kingdom.

What has been your role in the response?

To see the impact on human health. As a consequence of the disaster the whole team is monitoring disease through epidemiological surveillance. For example, cholera prompted a massive vaccination campaign and other interventions in sanitation and the provision of clean drinking water that have contributed in a major way to lowering the number of cases.

As cholera goes down malaria becomes another public health issue of greater concern so we are also working on it.
