Juba, 22 May 2018 - Following the Ebola outbreak that has been declared in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), a high level mission comprised of Ministry of Health (MOH) in the Republic of South Sudan and WHO visited Yambio, former Western Equatoria State on a sensitization campaign.

The sensitization campaign against Ebola followed an earlier press conference held in Juba to enhance efforts to prevent Ebola virus disease (EVD) in the country.

Juba, 16 May 2018— In South Sudan, food insecurity continues to deteriorate to Emergency (IPC Phase 4) due to displacement, restrictions on movement and trade flows, and limited access to normal livelihoods activities.  

Juba, 11 May 2018 – To reduce the risk of cholera outbreaks in South Sudan, the World Health Organization (WHO), with the Ministry of Health and partners, is targeting to immunize 854 469 people against cholera in South Sudan’s endemic ‘hot spots’ in the first half of 2018.

Juba 27 April, 2018: The Republic of South Sudan hosted a joint cross-border multi-sectoral disease surveillance meeting in Nimule, South Sudan from 24-26 April, 2018. Experts drawn from human, animal, environmental health and immigration sectors of South Sudan, Uganda, and Kenya deliberated on mechanisms to strengthen implementation of cross boarder disease surveillance and outbreak response in the region.  

With the protracted crises in South Sudan, the scale and severity of humanitarian situations continues to rise, hence efficient forecasting, procurement, distribution and rational use of WHO emergency health kits is critical to ensure timely delivery of essential emergency health services.

Juba, 23 March 2018 – WHO conducted Safe and Secure Approaches to Field Environments (SSAFE) training in Juba, South Sudan.

Juba, 15 March 2018 – Access to adequate water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services in health care facilities (HCFs) is essential for the provision of quality care.

In South Sudan, WASH in HCFs is one of the neglected areas within the health systems. Thus, establishing WASH in HCFs is crucial to prevent the risks of health care acquired infection among health care facility staff, patients, caregivers and the wider community.

Juba, 12 March 2018 – The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries have declared a Rift Valley fever (RVF) outbreak today (12 March) in Yirol East, Yirol West and Awerial Counties of Eastern Lakes State.
