Nebbi, 5 September 2018:- The Government of Uganda launched the national Oral Cholera Vaccination (OCV) preventative campaign targeting over 1,600,000 persons aged above one year in the 11 cholera hot-spot districts.

The campaign is aimed at preventing and controlling Cholera in the hot-spot districts including Arua, Buliisa, Busia, Hoima, Kasese, Moyo, Namayingo, Nebbi, Ntoroko, Pakwach and Zombo. It will be conducted in a phased manner as part of the National Cholera Control Plan (2017-2022).

Kampala, 23 August 2018:- In the wake of an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Uganda has heightened its surveillance and alertness at the Uganda-DRC border. This was revealed at a high-level breakfast meeting held at Golf Course Hotel in Kampala to brief the Diplomatic Corps, the Health Development Partners and the media in Uganda about the current outbreak in DRC and status of Uganda’s Ebola preparedness response.

Kampala, 16 August 2018: The Director General of the World Health Organization Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and the WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr Matshidiso Moeti visited Uganda on their way from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to assess the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) response. They were received by the WHO Representative in Uganda, Dr Yonas Tegegn Woldemariam who briefed them on WHO support to the operational preparedness of Uganda to respond to an outbreak.

Kampala 27 July 2018:- In response to allegations made in the UN Reporter concerning the spread of Vaccine Derived Polio Outbreak in Congo to Uganda, The Ministry of Health and The WHO Country Office in Uganda would like to point out the following:
1.    There hasn’t been a wild polio case in Uganda since November 2010.
2.    However, the Democratic Republic of Congo has reported cases of Vaccine Derived Polio outbreak close to the border with Uganda. 

Kampala 3 July 2018: The World Health Organization (WHO) in collaboration with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) donated an assortment of medical equipment worth $257,000 to the Ministry of Health (MoH) to improve Maternal and Child Health (MCH) services in Iganga and Kamuli districts in Uganda.

The equipment donated includes 4 neonatal incubators, 14 pulse oxymeters, 34 examination beds, 76 medical trolleys, 80 normal delivery sets, and 82 pediatric hospital mattresses.

Buikwe, 26 June 2018 – The Government of Uganda has launched today a new rotavirus vaccine to protect under five-year-old children from diarrhea. The vaccine, which will be available for free in health facilities throughout the country, is the 11th vaccine to be added into the national schedule of the expanded programme on immunization in Uganda. Rotavirus vaccine is safe and can be administered simultaneously with other routine infant vaccines. It is given orally and requires two doses at 6 and 10 weeks of age, with an interval of at least 4 weeks between doses.

The World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office in Uganda convened a prioritization meeting with the Ministry of Health (MoH) Top Management Committee (TMC) to discuss the alignment of WHO's 13th General Program of Work (GPW) with Uganda's Health Sector Development Plan (HSDP) and other health priorities.  In this special seating, the GPW prioritization agenda was incorporated as part of the special session of the TMC monthly meeting.

The Speaker of Uganda’s Parliament the Right Honorable Rebecca Kadaga launched the country’s Road Safety Legislative Action Plan which is arguably the first of its kind in Africa. The plan is aimed at generating legislative action to address road safety policy development, enactment, implementation and evaluation.

The Ministry of Health (MoH) with support from the World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) convened a donor conference to disseminate the eHealth Policy, Strategy and Implementation Plan, present the Enterprise Architecture Concept & Health Information Exchange and Resource Mobilization Strategy, and harmonize the eHealth implementation work plan for sustainability.
