Update COVID-19 20 January 2021

20 January 2021 — Three hundred, and twelve (312) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 4247 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases eleven thousand, eight hundred and sixty (11860). To date, seven thousand, eight hundred, and twelve (7812) patients have recovered, including two hundred, and thirty-two (232) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is three thousand, eight hundred and ninety-five (3895) and one hundred, and fifty-three (153) deaths. The 5 new deaths are three male of 91, 69, and 64, and one female of 39 years in Huye District, and one male of 54 years old in Kirehe District.


The new cases are in Kigali (189), Gicumbi (22), Nyanza (18), Rulindo (13), Musanze (13), Ngoma (11), Gatsibo (9), Karongi (8), Muhanga (7), Nyagatare (4), Rubavu (4), Gakenke (4), Nyamasheke (4), Rusizi (2), Kamonyi (2), Nyamagabe (2), Gisagara (1), Ruhango (1), and Huye (1); heightened vigilance is required everywhere. 

The COVID-19 prevention measures announced by the Government of Rwanda must continue to be rigorously observed, especially frequent hand-washing and physical distancing. In addition, face masks must be worn in public and multi-family compounds.
Withholding information related to contact tracing or COVID-19 symptoms, jeopardises public safety and will be punished in accordance with applicable laws.
