The Third African Regional Conference on Immunization (ARCI)
Theme: “Towards a Polio-free Africa.”
The specific objectives of this conference are:
- To review the progress in implementation of immunization programme activities in the Region and propose the way forward;
- To exchange technical updates and up-to date scientific developments;
- To identify and advance research questions in the area of immunization in the African Region;
- To improve advocacy and partnerships in immunization and related activities.

WHO: Experts in immunization, public health specialists, vaccine research and development experts, donors and partners.

The conference is being organized by the World Health Organization. The first plenary session with the sub-theme, Achieving Polio Eradication Milestones will include presentations and discussions on the global polio eradication effort, the status of polio eradication in the African region and how the global milestones for polio eradication are being monitored
Other parallel sessions will focus on Interrupting WPV Transmission in Priority Countries and Polio eradication, the remaining challenges.
The second day will be devoted to the theme; Strengthening Immunization Systems. Under this theme there will be sessions on ‘Reaching the unreached’, New vaccines and their impact as well as Immunization Financing Challenges.
The third day will be on accelerating the control of vaccine preventable-diseases. Discussions will focus on the achievement and future prospects of the measles initiative as well as lessons learnt with the introduction of the conjugate meningococcal A meningitis vaccine.
