This page provides Zambia’s Cholera Situation Reports. The Ministry of Health declared a cholera outbreak in Lusaka on 6th October 2017. A multi-sectoral response to address the drivers of the epidemic has been put in place by government in an effort to bring it to an end. WHO in collaboration with other partners is working closely with the Ministry of Health to implement evidence based, high impact strategies to interrupt the transmission of the current cholera outbreak in affected communities and areas at high risk, improve the quality of care at CTCs, and strengthen community engagement to influence behavioral change in dealing with risk factors. The key response areas are: leadership and coordination; surveillance and laboratory support; WASH support; case management support; and social mobilization. In addition to these interventions, the World Health Organization working with other partners is providing support to the Ministry of Health in conducting a cholera vaccination campaign targeting the population in the high risk areas.
