27 Avril 2009 -- The WHO Country Representative for Uganda, Dr. Joaquim Saweka (standing), the Programme Manager, AIDS Control Programme of the Uganda Ministry of Health Dr Zainab Akol, and Eastern Region ART Coordinator Dr Emmy Habyara during the official opening of the International Integrated Management of Adult and Childhood Illnesses (IMAI) Training workshop at Crested Crane Hotel, Jinja April 20th 2009.

The two weeks training workshop (16-30 April 2009) was attended by 23 International participants from 7 African countries who were trained as trainers of trainers in IMAI. Other participants included 80 Ugandan Health Workers and 20 Expert Patients.

The workshop was co-sponsored by WCO Uganda, IST/EAS, WHO/AFRO, WHO/HQ, NUMAT and EGPAF. The main objective of this training was to develop a core team of trainers for the East and Southern Africa Region who would in turn train health workers in their respective countries in providing comprehensive HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment services using the IMAI/IMCI approach in line with Universal Access Initiative with enhanced emphasis on peadiatric HIV/AIDS Care and Community-based Health Care approach. Additional technical support was provided by IST/West Africa, the East and Southern Africa Knowledge Hub and the Uganda Ministry of Health.
