African Vaccination Week Angola
Wednesday, 24th of April ANGOLA. A media conference was held on the third day of the African Vaccination Week in Angola to inform the national media on AVW activities in Angola.
The conference was organized into four sessions. The first session, in attendance of the National Director of Public Health, one Representative of the National Pediatrics Association, and WHO and UNICEF Representative in Angola and the WHO Official for Immunization, was directed to the main news channels of the National Radio of Angola.
In the next session the same speakers participated in a roundtable discussion on health activities, spearheaded by the Angolan government with support from its partners. The head of the National Immunization Program (PAV) also joint the roundtable discussion was broadcasted on the public the public television channel (TPA).
The discussion covered the progress that has been made in Angola in reaching more people with immunization. The improvement of the technical knowledge of health workers as a result of ongoing capacity trainings and the improvement of working conditions of the health workers were also discussed.
The following two sessions were conducted as part of the series of interviews with the Heads Municipality of the Health Departments in Luanda.
The first session was held on a private radio channel and the second broadcasted on a private television channel. Several challenges that contribute to the gaps in immunization coverage were discussed the difficulties in covering the target populations with immunization, social mobilization and awareness about the needs to seek for vaccination services.
Distribution of advocacy material and key messages at provincial level has been facilitated through the Journalists Network Sensitized on Polio Combat and Control. This network covers more than 40 journalists countrywide and is still growing.
The Provincial Social Communication urged by the National Representative are facilitating all coverage and media diffusion throughout the 17 provinces apart from Luanda in morning delivery press, punctual updates and shoots covering on job activities.
