Delivering HIV test results and messages for re-testing and counselling in adults
This guidance document contains recommendations that focus on re-testing for HIV. It clarifies and strengthens messages about re-testing for persons who have HIV-indeterminate or non-reactive HIV test results.
The document is set to;
1. Explain why it is not advisable to recommend re-testing for HIV for all populations and in all settings,
2. Clarify the specific populations and settings in which persons who have previously tested HIV negative can benefit from re-testing after a given time period,
3. Provide the timeframe for re-testing when it is indicated by population and setting, and
4. Illustrate these scenarios with messages that can be used by providers to educate individuals at the time of the HIV test.
