On the 18th February 2021, the Ministry of Health (MOH) called a meeting to establish a steering committee to coordinate activities of the National Health Observatory. The meeting held at the WHO Country Office in Eritrea was attended by 15 participants from Ministry of Health; Ministry of National development (statistics office); Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, Ministry of Land Water and Environment and Ministry of Agriculture, WHO and UNICEF. 

The 5-year Eritrean National Action Plan (NAP) on combating Antimicrobial Resistance, 2021 – 2025, developed jointly with MOH, line ministries, and WHO was officially signed by the honorable Ministers on 28th December 2020, reiterating their commitment for implementation.
Honorable Minister of Health, Minister of Agriculture, Minister of Land, Water and Environment, Minister of Marine Resources, signed the official document indicating their support and pledge to the NAP implementation and shared responsibility. 

WHO Supplies vital health service delivery equipment to support the MOH Maternity Waiting Homes in remote areas to strengthen the delivery of essential maternal and Newborn health in Eritrea.

As part of support of World Health Organization Eritrea to Ministry of Health for the continuity of essential health services on Maternal and Newborn health, WHO Eritrea handed over essential supplies that valued at 824,300.00 Nakfa to strengthen Eritrean Maternity Waiting Homes. 

To strengthen the role of Traditional, Complementary and Integrative medicine (TCI), WHO conducted its first interregional online training workshop on ensuring the quality of TCI products. The workshop was focused on ensuring quality of TCI products from patient safety perspective, through policy and regulation, and through research.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has organized a training on Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) which started on 8 September 2020. So far, five sessions have been conducted and seven remain.

The Ninth WHO Global Forum for Government Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officers (GCNMOs) and the Eighth Triad Meeting organized jointly by WHO, the International Confederation of Midwives and the International Council of Nurses was held through a virtual meeting from the 16th to 19th June 2020.

The focus of the meeting was on COVID-19; evidence-informed policy dialogue to advance nursing and midwifery; and the global strategic directions for nursing and midwifery

As part of the ongoing nationwide COVID-n2019 preparedness and response activities in Eritrea, the WHO Country Office facilitated a briefing session for all UN Agencies’ staff members on Tuesday, the 11^th Feb 2020. The briefing session was held at the National Confederation of Eritrean Workers.

Based on the realization of the importance shifting from Basic Health Care Package (BHCP) to Essential Health Care Package (EHCP), the Ministry of Health in collaboration with WHO has been working in developing the Essential Health Care Package. As part of the efforts on to attain Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Universal Health Coverage.

Today, the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Eritrea, Mr Gabor Iklody accompanied by Elisabetta Pietrobon, head of political, press and information section who recently arrived in Eritrea paid an official working visit to WHO Office in Asmara.
