Oshakati, 23 October 2006 -- The health authorities from Angola and Namibia have elaborated a joint plan of action to reactivate the prevention and control of the common communicable diseases and other issues along their borders, on specially Malaria, HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Polio, Epidemiological surveillance and social mobilization. This decision has been taken at the end of a meeting held in Oshakati, Namibia, from 17th to 19th October 2006.

Windhoek, 21 May 2010 -- Vaccines to protect against the Pandemic Influenza H1N1 2009 virus, were handed-over to the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) from the World Health Organization (WHO) at the Central Medical Stores today. A total of 216 000 doses were received from WHO headquarters in Geneva on Wednesday, 19 May 2010. USAID donated syringes and other essential supplies to compliment WHO’s donation. In addition, WHO is availing NAD 1,250 million to support vaccine operations.

Windhoek, 12 August 2010 -- The Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) has announced the end of the Influenza H1N1 (2009) pandemic, following the World Health Organization’s (WHO) declaration of the end of the pandemic on 10 August 2010.

Windhoek: 16 November 2010: The Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) with support from the World Health Organization (WHO) will commemorate World Diabetes Day through week-long activities, titled: ”Diabetes Education and Prevention with the slogan:"Let's take control of diabetes. Now."

In keeping with the theme of World Diabetes Day, events lined up target both health workers and the general public, noting that action is required at all levels in order to take control of this largely avoidable disease.

Windhoek, 1 March 2011 -- Tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the major public health concerns in Namibia with 13 332 TB cases reported in 2009. The emergence of drug-resistance tuberculosis (DR-TB), which is more difficult to treat, is on the rise. TB is also the world’s biggest killer of people living with HIV. In Namibia, 60% of TB patients are HIV positive.Namibia is one of the few countries, in which patients can receive free comprehensive care for both TB and HIV.

Anti-microbial resistance (AMR) occurs when medicines that have proven to work are no longer effective to fight more lethal and tough germs.

Luanda, 7 April 2011 -- The Angolan Minister of Health, Dr. José Van-Dunem, and the Minister of Health and Social Services of Namibia, Dr. Richard Kamwi, on Tuesday 5th April 2011 signed a joint statement in which they committed themselves to coordinating and improving health interventions along the borders between the two countries.
