When much of the world was waking up to the enormous implications of a global pandemic, Uganda was already a step ahead thanks to Ebola. 

While COVID-19 has its unique challenges, such as quick spread, dealing with it requires the type of response Uganda has been practising over the years with the Ebola threat, 

Kampala, 7 September 2020:- At Rwenshama point of entry on the shores of Lake Edward in Rukungiri district, western Uganda, it’s a warm windy day and the place is bustling with activity. At one end, many sailors in groups of over eight are standing by their boats and preparing their nets for the day’s catch. On the other side, others are preparing to set off into the lake while in a permanent shelter, another group has displayed their catch for the day for all to see and buy the fish of their choice. 

Kampala, 4 September 2020:- When the World Health Organization (WHO), declared the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) outbreak a global pandemic, on 11th March 2020, many Ugandans didn’t take it seriously with many saying it was a disease for the affluent, the very high class or for developed countries.

Kampala, 2 September 2020:- Kasensero landing site located on the shores of Lake Victoria in Kyoteera district in southern Uganda has always made public health news. It is known as the “birth” place of HIV/AIDS in Uganda because the first confirmed cases were recorded from this area.

For many public health workers in Uganda, responding to disease outbreaks of epidemic potential in not new. This is because the country has been in preparedness and response modes for quite some time and its disease outbreak system has regularly been tested over the years.

Moyo, 20th August 2020:- Mr Mark Oguma Oguti and his daughter Claudia are thrilled about the launch of the Yellow Fever Vaccination campaign. Asked whether his other family members will be immunized, Mark excitedly says, “they are on the way with their mom. My wife and I always ensure that our family benefits from all government vaccination programs.” Mark arrived earlier with his daughter because they had to run errands in town, earlier.
 

 Kampala 16th July 2020:- The South Korean government through its donor coordinating agency, Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the World Health Organization (WHO) have extended support worth Ten Million Dollars towards the improvement of Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) services in five districts in Busoga sub-region.

Kampala, 26 June 2020:-The Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic whose initial case was first reported in the Wuhan Province of China in January 2019 has affected the lives of many people, globally. Equally, Uganda has not been spared. The country has reached three months under lockdown which started in April 2020. Although there has been gradual ease of the lockdown, some sections of Ugandans remain affected.

KAMPALA, Uganda, 26 June 2020: The Government of Denmark, through the Royal Danish Embassy in Kampala, extended additional financial support of US Dollars 1,000,000 to the Government of Uganda through the World Health Organisation (WHO) to support the COVID-19 response. The grant is intended to procure additional testing kits to increase the testing capacity of laboratories at the national and regional level, particularly at the border points.

17th June 2020: - It is a public health fact that in Uganda, the war against COVID-19 will be won or lost in the community.  Presently, communities have the panacea on how the response progresses simply because COVID-19 infections are increasingly being detected in communities across the country.
