Uganda’s Ministry of Health Receives Equipment Worth Nine Million Dollars

Kampala, 10 February 2020- The Ministry of Health received cold chain and transport equipment worth nine million dollars procured through United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and World Health Organization (WHO) with support from the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI). The equipment included 657 motorcycles, 996 solar fridges, 10 generators, vaccine carriers and cold boxes.

Press Statement on Yellow Fever in Moyo and Buliisa districts in Uganda

Kampala, 27 Januarry 2020:- The Ministry of Health would like to inform the public of the confirmation of an outbreak of Yellow Fever in Moyo District in West Nile region and Buliisa District in Hoima region. 

In Moyo District, there are two confirmed cases, both are males aged 18 and 21 years. The two cases were dealing in cutting and trading timber between Uganda and South Sudan. On 2 January 2020, the two cases travelled from South Sudan to Moyo.

Uganda embarks on the Second Phase of Oral Cholera Vaccination Exercise

Zombo, 16 December 2019: – As part of its strategic plan to prevent Cholera outbreaks in the country, the Ministry of Health, with support from the World Health Organization (WHO) embarked on round two of the second phase of the Integrated Oral Cholera Vaccination Campaign exercise targeting over 681 270 individuals aged one year and above. 

The exercise is taking place in the five (5) Cholera hotspot districts of Bududa, Buliisa, Nebbi, Pakwach and Zombo.

WHO extends support towards Tuberculosis Diagnosis in Uganda

Kampala, 16 December 2019: The Speaker of Parliament, the Right Honourable Rebecca Alitwaala Kadaga received a Tuberculosis (TB) GeneXpert machine from the World Health Organization (WHO) to improve TB testing and diagnosis among key populations in prisons.

The GeneXpert machine was delivered by the WHO Representative Dr Yonas Tegegn Woldemariam who said that the machine will increase rapid diagnosis among key populations such as prisoners and HIV & AIDS patients thus contributing to the achievement of the global and national TB goals.

On behalf of the Ministry of Health and the Government of Uganda, I take this opportunity to update the public on the just concluded national Measles-Rubella and Polio immunisation campaign.

As you may recall, the national Measles-Rubella and Polio immunisation campaign was launched in Mayuge District on Tuesday, 15th October 2019 and implemented countrywide from 16th to 20th October 2019. There was an extension of 1 day nationwide and 2 days specifically for Kampala, Wakiso, Mukono and districts in the Karamoja region.

The review specifically focused on GAVI’s support to Uganda National Expanded Program on Immunization (UNEPI) and its contribution to immunization outcomes in the country.
